Siyari
The siyari is a woven rattle made from the fibre of the gang
tree. It is made up of four parts:
- the handles, around which fabric is wound;
- the woven fibres of the gang tree;
- half a gourd;
- a string tying the two rattles together.
The raffia net is attached to the gourd and small stones are inserted in the
hollow space between the gourd and the net. The musician shakes the siyari
in a vertical motion with short sharp movements producing a penetrating sound.
